Yahoo has recently launched a mobile video messaging application by the name of Livetext. The app has been launched worldwide and is available on Android and iOS platforms
The app however has a twist. The app allows users to type text on a video and share it with their friends but the video does not support audio. This is been done keeping in mind that a lot of users avoid opening videos in public due to its audio.
The app currently works on 3G and 4G networks and is not optimised to work on 2G networks. In the near future, Yahoo may look at optimising it for 2G networks as well.
Yahoo Livetext is a late entrant into the mobile messaging space. With competitors like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangout, etc we’re not sure if Yahoo Livechat will be able hold itself in this highly competitive space.
